Product description
Opihr gin debuted with the Oriental Spice version in October 2013 from Quintessential Brands.
Its creator is Joanne Moore, master distiller of C&J Distillery, who was also entrusted with the distillation by Quintessential Brands. The botanicals come from countries located on ancient trade routes: cubeb pepper from Malaysia, black pepper, ginger and cardamom from India, cumin from Turkey, coriander seed from Morocco, bitter oranges from Spain, juniper berries from Italy, angelica root from Germany, and we do not know the origin of the lemon and grapefruit peels. The name of the gin evokes a legendary land that flourished during the reign of King Solomon. It was there that cargoes of silver, gold and spices were supposed to have arrived. Its exact location is unknown, but it was probably on the route of the trade route between the East and the West. The “European edition” presented here hit the market in September 2019 as part of the “Regional Editions” series. Its formula includes croton corrode (used in the production of vermouth and some bitters and tonics).
The aromatic and flavor bouquet of Opihr European Edition is dominated by notes of "bitters", bitter oranges, licorice and slightly burnt wood, combined with the aftertaste of juniper, typical of gin, and to a lesser extent cardamom and coriander. We recommend serving in a Negroni cocktail.
