Product description
In Old Norse, Jura means "deer island" and to this day there are 20 deer for every two hundred inhabitants of the island.
Jura Distillery, built in 1810, struggled throughout the 19th century, and its buildings were empty between 1901 and 1960. The last decade has seen unprecedented success for local whisky, with sales reaching 2 million bottles (2019). Jura Elixir (46% abv), made from distillates aged in sherry and bourbon barrels, debuted in late 2012, and has recently hit the market at 40%. Its name refers to the source of water used by the distillery and referred to by the island's residents as the "elixir of life."
