Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and chaired by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Tomatin 10 years old presented here was distilled in December 2008 and aged in a refill hogshead cask (DL 13774). Bottled a few weeks before its 11th birthday in November 2019, non-chill-filtered and at 48.4% abv in an edition limited to 384 bottles.
Aroma: barley malt, breakfast cereals, apples, pears, peaches, lemon peel, vanilla, milk chocolate, notes of cinnamon, ginger and oak.
Palate : sweet breakfast cereals, honey, vanilla, chocolate wafers, salted nuts, baked apples, lemon pepper, a pinch of ginger and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of breakfast cereal, summer fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper and oak.
