Mossburn Distillers & Blenders is a subsidiary of the Dutch group Marussia Beverages BV, founded in 2013.
They own the Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye (distilling since January 2017) and are the publisher of the whisky. Mossburn Island Blended Malt was released in 2018 as part of the Signature Casks series. It is a blend of single malts from undisclosed distilleries based in the Speyside region. All components were originally aged in American oak casks and after blending finished in specially designed ‘Mossburn casks’ (variant no. 2). These are fresh Oloroso sherry butts with heavily charred American oak bottoms. The whisky is bottled in its natural colour and without chill filtration.
Nose : subdued notes of sherry, raisins, orange peel, pineapple, almonds, honey, vanilla, milk chocolate and a fleeting trace of sulfur.
Palate: raisins, dried figs and plums, vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate, white pepper, a touch of nutmeg, sherry and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of dried fruit, chocolate biscuits, a touch of leather and sherry-soaked oak.
