Product description
Port Askaig is not a distillery, but merely a whisky brand from the portfolio of Specialty Drinks Ltd., founded by Sukhinder Singh, owner of The Whisky Exchange.
It bears the name of the ferry port on the Isle of Islay, located near the Caol Ila Distillery, and debuted in 2009. We do not know which distillery on the island is behind the Port Askaig brand, many whisky connoisseurs believe it is Caol Ila. Single malt Port Askaig is always bottled without chill filtration and with a natural color. The 8-year-old version presented here debuted in 2016 and is the youngest in the offer.
Nose: malty with strong marine and smoky notes, seaweed, breakfast cereals, lemon peel, vanilla, traces of hay and oak.
Palate: lots of smoke and hospital notes, seaweed salad, smoked ham, buttered toast, a hint of vanilla, lemongrass, pepper and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: long and warming, peat smoke, sea salt, black pepper and a shy hint of vanilla.
