Product description
Aikan whisky, the creation of Benoit Albanel, debuted in 2017. His company is based on the French island of Martinique, which belongs to the Lesser Antilles.
Aikan is a blend of French single malts from the Warengehem and Rozelieures distilleries, and a third, undisclosed blended Scotch whisky. Once transported to the island, they mature for one to five years in JM Rum Distillery warehouses, in rum barrels (the company uses a small number of bourbon barrels and French oak barrels). Martinique's tropical climate speeds up the maturation, but also increases the so-called Angel's share by up to 12% per year. The first edition of Aikan whisky consisted of 10,700 bottles.
