Springbank Distillery began operations in 1828 and remains owned by the founding family to this day.
Its buildings are located in the centre of Campbeltown, a town and the smallest Scotch whisky producing region on the Kintyre Peninsula. The distillery owners have always placed great importance on maturing in sherry casks, and this type of wood, combined with the salty air of Campbeltown, seems to have a magical effect on the whisky. Springbank 25 years old has been one of the most interesting items in the distillery's offer for years. It is composed of spirits matured almost exclusively in refilled sherry butts and experiences annual limited editions. The one presented here dates back to the 1990s, in our opinion.
Aroma : complex, lots of tropical fruits, cantaloupe, mango, papaya, dried apricots, cocoa powder, pepper, cinnamon, a pinch of salt, notes of tobacco and peat.
Palate : rich, orange jam, mango, nectarines, raisins, salted almonds, dark chocolate, nutmeg, cloves, sherry-soaked oak and a hint of sea breeze.
Finish: long and quite spicy, with notes of oak, nutmeg, pepper, licorice, cocoa and salted almonds, dried fruit and a trace of smoke in the background.
