Product description
Queen Elizabeth II ascended the British throne on 6 February 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI.
However, due to the long period of mourning required by court protocol, the official coronation ceremony took place after more than a year, on 2 June 1953. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Elizabeth's accession, in 2013 Specialty Drinks Ltd., in cooperation with Glenfarclas Distillery, prepared a limited anniversary edition of the whisky. It consisted of 60 crystal decanters filled with Glenfarclas single malt distilled in the year of the coronation and aged in a sherry cask. It is undoubtedly one of the rarest and most collectible whiskies from the distillery. (Official tasting note.)
Aroma: At first, intense notes of dried fruit, macadamia nuts and orange liqueur. After a while, a subtle aroma of baked apples and raisins rises from the glass, followed by dried mushrooms, autumn leaves and sandalwood balanced by the sweetness of a Christmas fruitcake full of dried fruit.
Taste: layers of flavors that oppose and overlap, oranges with a hint of clove, Arabica coffee, dark rum and umami. After them comes a wave of fruity sweetness, ripe mango, guava, grapefruit and tangerines enriched with honey, blackberry tart and brown sugar, to soon give way to the piquancy of nutmeg and cinnamon and shy notes of tarragon and cedar carried on a mint leaf.
Finish : infinitely long, with interwoven notes of bread pudding, hazelnuts, fresh mint and citrus.
