Velier SVM 11-year-old MMW Tropical VS,Continental Aging Rum Set / 66.5% / 1.4l

Set of two bottles of rum produced at the Monymusk Distillery in Jamaica.

One contains distillates matured entirely in the European climate, while the other is a blend of spirits matured entirely in the tropical climate of Jamaica. A joint project between Dutch independent distributor Scheer and Italian rum specialist Velier. Each of the two rums has been blended from 12 barrels, including 2 from the 2008 vintage and 10 from the 2007 vintage. Both sets are rum distilled in traditional pot stills, and both are distillates known in Monymusk as Wedderburn – a high-ester, extremely demanding distillate, a treat for rum connoisseurs. In the case of the tropically matured version, we are dealing with an ester content of 315.6 gr/hlpa (grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol), while the European-matured version contains 243.5 gr/hlpa.

Two rums, each of which is a real treat for connoisseurs on its own, here also provide an opportunity to compare the impact of climate on the maturation of rum and its final effect. Distillates as similar as possible in terms of characteristics were compared, differing only in the place of maturation and the climate associated with it.
