Velier SVM 14-year-old EMB Tropical VS,Continental Aging Rum Set / 67.2% / 1.4l

Set of two bottles of rum produced at the Monymusk Distillery in Jamaica.

One is a blend of spirits matured entirely in the European climate, while the other is a blend of spirits matured entirely in the tropical climate of Jamaica. A joint project between Dutch independent distributor Scheer and Italian rum specialist Velier. The European-aged rum is a set of 12 barrels from the 2004 vintage, while the Jamaican tropical-aged rum is 10 barrels from the 2006 vintage, 2 barrels from 2004 and 4 barrels from 2002. Both sets are rum distilled in traditional pot stills, and both are a distillate known in Monymusk as Plummer – a high-ester, extremely demanding distillate, a treat for rum connoisseurs. The tropically matured version has an ester content of 324.5 gr/hlpa (grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol), while the European matured version contains 129.9 gr/hlpa.

Two rums, each of which is a real treat for connoisseurs on its own, here also provide an opportunity to compare the impact of climate on the maturation of rum and its final effect. Distillates that are as similar as possible in terms of characteristics have been compared, differing primarily in the place of maturation and the climate associated with it.
