BenRiach 1994, 24-year-old Peated, Marsala Cask # 6500 / 51.8%/ 0.7l
- In the late June 2019 BenRiach Distillery revealed details of their newest batch of single cask selection.
Product description
The 16th edition of BenRiacha Single Cask was released at the end of June 2019. The barrels were selected by blender Dr. Rachel Barrie.
This time, Ms. Barrie selected 24 barrels, the first 12 of which were intended for the European market (these were barrels from bourbon, Oloroso sherry, port, rum, Marsala, Rioja wine and virgin oak), while the rest went to the markets of Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. The youngest in the European offer was a 7-year-old aged in virgin barrels, the oldest was 33-year-old Peated. The BenRiach Peated presented here, distilled on July 15, 1994, spent almost a quarter of a century in a Marsala hogshead barrel (no. 6500), the contents of which translated into 299 bottles of cask strength whisky (51.8% abv).
Producer's tasting note:
Aroma : grilled apricots, followed by honey, eucalyptus leaves and roasted chestnuts, and in the background a grocery store filled with spicy spices.
Palate: Grilled apricots, root beer, blackcurrants and a hint of wax start; followed by cherries and ripe apricots, and hints of leather before a sweet-smoky finish.
