Product description
Akashi Whisky is a product of the Eigashima (White Oak) Distillery, which has been operating since 1888. Initially producing sake, it obtained a license to produce whisky in 1919, but did not begin producing it until over 40 years later.
The current distillery was built in 1984 and distills whisky for seven months of the year, while the main source of income remains sake and shōchu. After several years of experimenting with malts with different concentrations of phenols, the company decided to go with minimally peated (5 ppm). The first single cask edition debuted in 2013, presented here, from 2018, is a whisky aged for over 5 years in cognac barrels and finished in barrel no. 61695 of red wine.
Nose : red fruits and oak, strawberries, raspberries, red currants, cocoa powder, orange peel, roasted almonds and a hint of vanilla.
Taste : dried red fruits, coconut flakes, banana cake, milk chocolate, cinnamon, a bit of pepper and ginger and quite strong oak notes.
Finish : medium long, with mild notes of red fruits, chocolate, toasted almonds, pepper and oak.
