Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series acquired by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co, of which Stewart is chairman. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Jura 12 year old presented here was distilled in December 2006 and aged in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 12966. Bottled in December 2018 at cask strength (48.4% abv) and without chill filtration in an edition of 357 bottles.
Nose : malty, slightly mineral, vanilla, shortbread biscuits, lemon peel, grapefruit, salted nuts, oak and a distant hint of smoke.
Palate: sweet breakfast cereals, vanilla, salted caramel, green apples, white pepper, lemongrass and a hint of peat.
Finish : medium long, with notes of barley malt, vanilla, toffee, pepper, allspice and charred oak.
