Renowned distribution company Douglas Laing & Co. was owned by brothers Stuart and Fred Laing until 2013, but after 40 years of success the brothers decided to split the company assets and operate separately.
In 2014, Fred, who owned Douglas Laing & Co., introduced the XOP (Xtra Old Particular) series. The single malt and single grain whiskies offered in this series come from the best casks remaining in the family's stock. The Bruichladdich 26 years old presented here is the content of a hogshead cask (DL 12259) filled in October 1991 and bottled in 301 cask strength bottles (48% abv) in November 2017.
Nose : barley malt, green apples, quince jelly, lemon peel, white pepper, vanilla, roasted nuts, sea breeze, damp sand and polished oak.
Taste : mild, apples, greengages, gooseberries, green tea, notes of lemongrass and white pepper, salted nuts and a pleasant bitterness of oak in the background.
Finish: medium long and slightly waxy, with notes of vanilla, summer fruits, lemongrass, white pepper, oak, a trace of leather and a hint of sea breeze.
