Product description
Fred Laing's XOP series debuted in 2014, a dozen or so months after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
XOP stands for Xtra Old Particular and refers to the finest single malt and single grain casks from the family stock. The Highland Park 21 year old on display here was distilled in September 1996 and aged for over two decades in a refill hogshead (DL 12546). Bottled in June 2018 at cask strength (48.3% abv) and non-chill filtered in a limited edition of just 271 bottles.
Nose : sea breeze, burnt buttered toast, honey, orange peel, bananas, cantaloupe, raisins, a pinch of dry herbs, charred oak and peat.
Taste: slightly mineral, oranges, tangerines, nectarines, baked apples, white pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, oak and peat smoke in the background.
Finish : quite long, with notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, salted caramel, toffee, cinnamon, ginger and peat.
