Bushmills Distillery is based in the village of the same name (population 1,400) in the north of County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
Since the end of 2014, the distillery has belonged to the Mexican company Casa Cuervo SA de CV, producer of the world's most popular tequila José Cuervo. Annual sales of the Bushmills brand reach 10 million bottles, which makes it the third most popular Irish whiskey after Jameson and Tullamore Dew. The distillery uses a triple distillation process, and the vast majority of distillates are aged in bourbon barrels. The Bushmills Distiller's Reserve presented here is a rare single barrel edition, whiskey distilled in 1988, aged in American oak barrel no. 15988 and bottled at cask strength (54.4% abv) on the threshold of the new Millennium.
Aroma : fruity-floral, apples, bananas, peaches, coconut flakes, potpourri, vanilla, caramel, toffee, notes of lemongrass and white pepper.
Palate: mild, juicy grapes, coconuts, candied lemon peel, vanilla marshmallow, honey-roasted nuts, a touch of cinnamon and oak.
Finish : long, with notes of summer fruits, vanilla, toffee, lemon peel, a touch of ginger and oak.
