Product description
Single malt Smokehead is a proposal from Ian Macleod Distillers from 2006. The whisky is in the same league as Peat Monster or Big Peat and effectively competes with them.
High Voltage, presented here, joined the range in spring 2018. We still don’t know which Islay distillery is behind the Smoking Head, but spokesman Ian Macleod proudly declared that “Smokehead challenges the established order of the whisky world, and the spirit itself and its unusual presentation appeal strongly to the young consumer who is always ready to accept it.” Smokehead High Voltage is bottled at 58% ABV and deserves the description “smoking head on steroids.”
Nose: intensely smoky and peaty, sea breeze, seaweed, vanilla, toffee, caramel, pepper and notes of charred steak.
Taste: smoky, slightly oily and alcoholic, salty nuts, cocoa powder, caramel, bitter oranges and a light mineral note.
Finish: quite long, smoky, with notes of dark chocolate with grains of salt, bitter oranges and charred oak.
