The Caol Ila Distillery was built in 1846 by Hector Henderson. Bulloch Lade & Co., Glasgow blended whisky producers, purchased the distillery in 1863 and owned it until 1920.
In that year, Bulloch Lade & Co. filed for bankruptcy and its assets were taken over by a consortium led by DCL. Seven years later, DCL became the sole owner and revived Bulloch Lade & Co. as a subsidiary. It finally ceased to exist in 2007. Here we present the 12-year-old Caol Ila bottled at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s by Bulloch Lade & Co. This excellent whisky from the “old school” is priceless for collectors of this brand.
Nose: sweet and salty, sea breeze, iodine, vanilla, marzipan, ripe apples, mirabelle plums, lemons, limes, a bit of hay and peat smoke in the background.
Palate: captures aromas of apples, peaches, pears, candied lemon peel, lemongrass, pepper, seaweed salad, green olives, sea salt and a bit of peat smoke.
Finish: quite long, with notes of sea salt, peat smoke, vanilla, honey, dry herbs and roasted nuts.
