- The story of Bacardí, the world’s largest private spirits company, dates back to 1862.
Product description
The history of Bacardí, the world's largest privately owned spirits company, began in 1862, when Facundo Bacardí Massó, together with his brother José, founded the Santiago de Cuba distillery.
Bats lived in the attic of the distillery building, and the image of one of them soon became a symbol of the brand. The bat in the Bacardi logo became an important element for recognizing the brand in the face of widespread illiteracy in the 19th century. When the communist revolution came to Cuba, the Bacardí family opposed the dictatorship of Fidel Castro. Their property located in Cuba was confiscated in October 1960. However, they managed to protect themselves by moving part of their property, recipes, ownership of trademarks, etc. to the Bahamas and building distilleries in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Finally, in 1965, a new headquarters of the brand was established in Hamilton, Bahamas, and the main production plant of the company is located in Cataño, Puerto Rico.
Bacardí Añejo Cuatro is a rum matured in Puerto Rico for 4 years in oak barrels. In its bouquet we find notes of delicate vanilla, toasted oak, cloves and honey.
