The Marcati brothers, Pietro and Luigi, began their business in the family-owned pharmacy in 1919. They have been producing craft spirits such as grappa, amaretto and limoncello.
The family owns In Mizzole, an important land property, which is composed of eight hectares cultivated with the traditional vines of the region. In Mizzole is a small, ancient village near Valpolicella, which the Marcati family has owned for more than a Century. Valpolicella is a viticultural zone of the province of Verona, east of Lake Garda. It ranks just after Chianti in total Italian DOC (Denominazione Origine Controllata) wine production. After World War Two, the company’s activity was moved from the original site at Veronella to Sommacampagna, and developed intensively by the second generation of the family with Pietro Marcati’s son, Giuseppe at the helm. In the 1970s the company was taken over by the third generation, and by that time the brand, which had prospered greatly from the boom in the 1960s, was well known on international markets. Today, Marcati products are sold in over 40 international markets.
Marcati Fernet Gagliano Bitters is produced using infusions and tinctures of various medicinal herbs, flowers, bark and roots of plants from all over the world. With its bitter and aromatic taste, this classic liqueur is used as a perfect after-meal liqueur.
