In September 2012 Jack Daniel’s Distillery introduced the Master Distiller Series, a range of Jack Daniel’s whiskey celebrating seven master distillers (including the current one, Jeff Arnett) throughout the history of the distillery.
The fifth release (fall 2016) is a homage to Frank Bobo, who held the master distiller post from 1966 to 1988. Frank Bobo took over master distiller post from Jess Gamble in 1966. During the 1970s and most of the 1980s, he oversaw the historic rise of the Old No. 7 Brand. Throughout his watch, he never made enough whiskey to keep up with demand; he was more concerned about making every drop according to the low, time-honored process the Jack Daniel's founder perfected. His favorite line was: “I’d rather ask for folks’ patience than their forgiveness”. In 1988 Frank Bobo handed over master distiller responsibilities to Jimmy Bedford. In the early 2014 Chris Fletcher, Frank Bobo’s grandson, took the assistant master distiller position at Jack Daniel’s and Frank, now 88, keeps providing guidance to, very likely, the future master distiller of Jack Daniel’s.
