Deanston Distillery is based in Perthshire in the southern Highlands. It began in 1966 in buildings that had previously operated a cotton mill.
Since 1990, it has belonged to the Scottish company Burn Stewart Distillers, which in 2013 was taken over by Distell Group from South Africa. Deanston produces around 3 million liters of distillate annually, most of which goes to the Scottish Leader blend, the annual sales of which exceed 6 million bottles. Deanston 12 years old debuted in the mid-90s and to this day holds a key position in the basic offer. Since 2010, this whisky has been bottled without cold filtration and with the alcohol content increased to 46.3%.
Nose: malty, slightly waxy, breakfast cereal, flaxseed, hay, lemon peel, green apples, vanilla, graham crackers, walnuts and some oak.
Palate: slightly oily, vanilla, toffee, a hint of coconut flakes, white pepper, lemongrass, candied ginger, baked apples and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, milk chocolate, pepper, ginger, hay and oak.
