Product description
Thomas Dakin gin debuted in 2015 in the Quintessential Brands offering.
Its patron saint is the gin pioneer Thomas Dakin, who began distilling in Warrington in 1761; his Bridge Distillery remained in the hands of the founding family for a hundred years. In 1860, the plant was leased and soon purchased by local brewer Edward Greenall. His two younger brothers, Gilbert and John, renamed the company using their own initials. The present Thomas Dakin gin is the work of Joanne Moore, master distiller of G&J Distillers, who has based it on Dakin’s original formula. The 11 botanicals include juniper berries, coriander seed, orange peel, grapefruit, cubeb pepper, liquorice root, angelica root and horseradish. The ingredients are macerated in once-distilled grain spirit (only the heart of the middle cut is used) and then redistilled. This gin has won several prestigious awards, including a gold medal at the International Spirit Challenge in 2020.
Thomas Dakin gin is a well-balanced drink, spicy, but with distinct citrus notes (oranges, lemons and limes) and juniper; horseradish also adds flavor. The taste also has notes of green apples and pepper. We recommend serving with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic or in a Negroni cocktail.
