Product description
How often do we come across a single malt aged exclusively in red wine barrels?
In our case, not very often, and in fact for the first time only at the end of 2014 when Glen Garioch Distillery proposed the Wine Cask Matured edition. The whisky distilled on 23 June 1998 spent over 15 years in red Bordeaux barrels from Saint-Julien, from the Médoc subregion. The barrels were selected by Rachel Barrie, the master blender of Morrison Bowmore. The whisky was bottled at 48% alcohol and without cold filtration, and the edition consisted of 5,400 bottles. The Scottish-French connection brought out the fruity sweetness, malty and spicy notes from the whisky.
Nose : fruity-malty, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, rosehip jam, raisins, toffee, honey, cinnamon, ginger and a trace of oak.
Palate: rich, fruity and spicy, a basket of red berries, plum jam, orange peel, milk chocolate, ginger, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and a hint of licorice.
Finish : long and spicy, with clear notes of red berries.
