Product description
In spring 2017, Bowmore Distillery introduced a new core range of three whiskies: Nº1 Malt, 12 years old and 15 years old finished in Oloroso sherry casks for an unspecified period.
The latter replaced the 15-year-old Darkest, which spent the last three years of its maturation in sherry casks. Bowmore is the oldest distillery operating on Islay (since 1779), and one of a handful of Scottish distilleries that still malts its own barley, although its own malt only covers 30% of its needs. Annual sales of Bowmore single malt reach 2 million bottles.
Nose: smoky with notes of sherry, roasted chestnuts, dark chocolate, raisins, toffee, dried plums, a pinch of pepper, traces of tobacco and burnt rubber.
Palate: smoky and slightly salty, toffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, dried plums and cherries, walnuts, licorice, tobacco and some oak in the background.
Finish: quite long with delicate notes of sherry, dark chocolate, sea salt, and dried fruit wrapped in peat smoke.
