The Bitter Truth was founded in 2006 by two Munich bartenders, Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck.

The new company's primary business was to be the creation of cocktail spices, the so-called "bitters", which were hard to come by on the German market at the time. Both founders had considerable experience in using and preparing bitters, and also had collections of such spices - both those currently in production and those whose production had long been abandoned.
