Prometheus 26 Year Old Cache 1, The Glasgow Distillery Co. /47%/ 0.7l

Prometheus, a single malt from the Glasgow Distillery Company portfolio, the first distillery to be established in the city in over a hundred years, debuted in January 2015.

The whisky comes from an undisclosed distillery in Speyside, and is named after Prometheus, a hero of Greek mythology who stole fire from the gods and brought it to earth. The company describes Prometheus as “a fusion of the burning peat of the Scottish islands with the rich aromas and flavours of the highlands” and says it still has stocks in stock for future releases. Prometheus Cache 1 was distilled in April 1988, aged in Spanish oak sherry casks for 26 years and bottled at 47% abv in an edition of 3,000 bottles. There are some timid rumours that Prometheus is Macallan. (Producer’s tasting note.)

Nose: warm and inviting, sweet tones of milk fudge, fragrant heather, orange peel and smoky charcoal.

Taste : rich and satisfying, creamy, notes of pepper and roasted nuts, nutmeg and cloves enriched with a pinch of vanilla straight from Madagascar, dark chocolate, fruit cake rich in dried fruit, heather honey, candied fruit and a light whiff of smoke.
