The Don Papa brand name is a tribute to a historical figure who fought for the liberation of the Philippines from Spanish rule in the late 19th century, Dionisio Magbuelas, commonly known as Papa Isio.
The brand was created by Stephen Carroll for the Bleeding Heart Company. Produced on the Philippine island of Negros, it is considered the world's first single island rum from the Philippines. Don Papa Aged 10 Years Rum is made from sugar cane from the island of Negros in the Philippines, distilled in traditional pot stills and aged for 10 years in oak barrels from American bourbon. These barrels were additionally charred, which enhanced the vanilla and oak accents in the final product.
Nose: Rich and fruity, with distinct notes of vanilla, oak, citrus, apricots, honey and candied fruit.
Taste : Complex, smooth, with notes of vanilla, honey, raisins, oak, orange jam, toffee and cinnamon.
Finish : Long, with notes of oak and cinnamon.
