Bottle No. 755
Glenglassaugh Distillery, built in 1875, is located in the Eastern Highlands, approximately 50 miles north-west of Aberdeen.
In 1959-60, the plant (then owned by Highland Distillers), after a quarter-century of distilling, underwent a major redevelopment and for the next 30 years supplied malt spirits for the Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse blends. Glenglassaugh changed hands three times in the new century, most recently in the summer of 2016 when it was acquired by the American Brown-Forman Corporation. The 40-year-old edition presented here dates from 2013 and was blended by Billy Walker shortly after the distillery was purchased by his BenRiach Distillery Company.
Nose: a mountain of tropical fruits, mango, bananas, pineapples, raisins, walnuts, a touch of cinnamon and pepper and beautifully woven notes of Oloroso sherry.
Palate : sweet but complex, distinct notes of sherry, toffee, honey, raisins, bananas, orange peel, a trace of tobacco, ginger, a pinch of cocoa and a distant note of smoke.
Finish: long and rich, a blend of sherry, dried fruit and spices.
