Dad’s Hat rye whiskey is produced by Mountain Laurel Spirit, a craft distillery founded in 2010 by Herman C. Mihalich and John S. Cooper. The distillery is located in Bristol, Pennsylvania, the state considered a cradle of the original American whiskey. Dad’s Hat is made from a mashbill of 80% rye, 15% malted barley and 5% malted rye and is aged for a minimum of 6 months (usually 8 to 9 months) in charred oak quarter casks. There are some 53-gallon barrels in the inventory as well. Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Rye debuted in 2012 and was named the Craft Whiskey of the Year by “Whisky Advocate” in 2015.
