AnCnoc Rascan is a proposal from 2015, in the popular Peaty Collection series , extremely highly rated by fans of the brand.
The whisky, distilled from malt with a phenol density of 11.1 ppm (just 0.1 ppm higher than the Rutter edition), is named after another tool used to extract peat. It is a type of rake used to scrape away the outer layers of earth that cover the peat bog. Rascan is blended from distillates aged in bourbon barrels for “nearly a decade” and bottled without chill filtration at 46% ABV. 18,000 bottles have been released.
Nose: sweet and smoky, vanilla, honey, apples, oranges, lemon candy, peat and traces of cigar ash.
Palate: mild, smoky, sweet and spicy, vanilla, caramel, toffee, traces of leather and delicate notes of spices.
Finish: medium long, slightly smoky, with notes of hay, dried flowers and a subtle vanilla sweetness.
