Glenmorangie Milsean (which means 'sweet' in Gaelic) is the seventh edition in the multi-award-winning Private Edition series .
The distillery is an undisputed pioneer in finishing its single malts in wine barrels and Milsean is a proud continuation of this practice. After spending its primary maturation period in bourbon barrels, the whisky was finished in charred Portuguese wine barrels. The re-toasting process re-caramelises the sugars in the wood as well as the substances deposited on the walls of the barrel. Milsean was released in November 2015, bottled at 46% abv and unchill-filtered.
Nose: sweet and fragrant, candy shop, milk chocolate, caramel, ripe apples and plums, coconuts, pineapples, candied lemon peel and a hint of pipe tobacco.
Taste: very sweet with a delicate spicy note, vanilla halva, toffee, mango, oranges, raisins, coconut flakes, cinnamon, traces of nutmeg and pepper.
Finish: medium long, sweetness of fresh and candied fruit, balanced by notes of candied ginger and aromatic tobacco.
