Ardbeg 15-year-old (B. for Mayor, Sworder & Co. Ltd) 0.75 L - although Ardbeg Distillery requires no detailed introduction, the edition presented here rather does.
Every now and then we come across unusual, one might say mysterious, bottles of whisky, information about which has long been lost to time. And so it is with the Ardbeg presented here. The Mayor, Sworder & Co. company was registered in London in 1904 and for over a century supplied wines to renowned London companies, West End clubs, and had its customers among the aristocracy of south-east England. In the 1980s, Mayor, Sworder & Co. tried to expand their offer to include whisky, but it remained out of favor with consumers and the idea soon fell through. We know that the 15 -year-old Ardbeg was bottled before 1990 (at that time the 700 ml bottle was legally recognized as the standard capacity for distilled alcoholic beverages in EU countries). We also know that until 1974 the distillery produced its own malt, so the whisky presented here is a solidly peated Ardbeg from the "old school". (In 2009, Mayor, Sworder & Co. merged with Davy & Co. and officially ceased to exist two years later.)
