- Douglas Laing & Co, one of the most reputable independent bottling companies, used to be run by two Laing brothers, Stuart and Fred.
Product description
Bottle No. 75 / 115
Renowned distribution company Douglas Laing & Co. was owned by brothers Stuart and Fred Laing until 2013, but after 40 years of success the brothers decided to split the company assets and operate separately.
Fred, who maintained the Douglas Laing brand, introduced the XOP (Xtra Old Particular) series in 2014. The single malt and single grain whiskies offered in this series come from the best casks remaining in the family's stock. The Port Ellen 32 years old presented here is the content of a hogshead cask (DL 19568) filled in October 1982 and bottled in 115 cask strength bottles in December 2015. (The tasting note comes from the producer.)
Nose: Elegant, classic Islay style; sweet peat, barley malt, sand dunes and green fruits.
Palate: Friendly tobacco notes mingle with slightly burnt, buttered toast, plus vanilla fudge and a delicate breath of earth.
Finish: decidedly smoky, with a salty note and hints of leather, some dark chocolate and charred oak.
