Product description
Douglas Laing & Co. is one of the leaders in the blended malt category. Autumn 2013 brought the launch of Scallywag, a small batch edition made exclusively from Speyside single malts, including Macallan, Mortlach and Glenrothes.
According to Fred Laing, “the whisky is based on distillates aged in sherry casks balanced with first-fill bourbon casks.” Scallywag is bottled at 46% abv, non-chill-filtered, and is named after the family fox terrier, whose image is used on the label. (A “Scallywag” is a term for a person of unsophisticated manners who is more likely to amuse than to offend.)
Aroma: sweet, malty, sugar icing, toffee, vanilla cream, ripe apples and grapes, sugar-roasted almonds, notes of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Taste: sweet and spicy, vanilla, breakfast cereals with honey, raisins, dried plums, oranges, candied ginger, cinnamon, a pinch of pepper and cocoa.
Finish: medium long, vanilla, dark chocolate, oranges, raisins and delicate oak bitterness.
