In the new millennium Douglas Laing & Co. introduced more than few blended malt expressions. The fall of 2013 brought Scallywag, a small batch bottling created exclusively with Speyside malts including Macallan, Mortlach and Glenrothes. According to Fred Laing ‘the cask selection is self-evidently heavy on the sherry background balanced by first fill bourbon casks’. Scallywag is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration. The name of whisky refers to the Laing family Fox Terrier, whose picture is featured on the label. (The word ‘Scallywag’ describes a person who behaves badly but in amusingly mischievous rather than harmful way).
