The oldest Bushmills, the last of the Giant's Causeway

Bushmills is one of the oldest operating whisky distilleries in the world. Located in County Antrim, the Irish whiskey maker cites 1609 as the year of its founding. Bushmills invariably uses a three-stage distillation process traditional to Ireland, resulting in a clear and light distillate.
In the fall of 2020, a new series of whiskies from Bushmills debuted, dedicated to one of Europe's major geological attractions, namely Giant's Causeway, located near the distillery. Since then, 9 of the ten planned editions have been released The Causeway Collection. Among them are whiskies aged or finished in various types of barrels, including Sauternes, Pomerol, port and even tequila barrels. It was intended by the creator of the series, former Bushmills Cupid Champion Helen Mulholland, that there would be ten of them. So the time has come to conclude the series, and at the same time the first whiskey prepared by the new master buyer Alex Thomas.
Bushmills 33yo Port Casks is a whiskey distilled in April 1989 and matured in port barrels. Bottled as cask strength (53.3% vol.), is the oldest whiskey in the series and also the oldest whiskey ever bottled by Bushmills. Offering primarily rich notes of dark fruits in its bouquet, the whiskey will be available exclusively at World Duty-Free stores at London Heathrow Airport. Only 690 bottles were prepared, with a retail price of £1,245 each.
Whiskies from The Causeway Collection series were prepared in strictly limited editions for seven selected markets, namely Travel Retail, Ireland, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and Poland.
Giant's Causeway is the name given to an unusual geological formation consisting of about 40,000 basalt columns, uplifted by intense volcanic activity about 6 million years ago. Giant's Causeway is located in County Antrim, on the northeast coast of Ireland. It is associated with a legend of battles between Scottish and Irish giants, hence the name.
Whiskies from Bushmills distillery are available in quite a rich offer of the House of Whisky Online. At the time of preparing this material, they included representatives of previous editions of The Causeway Collection series. We invite you to visit, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with our offer.
