Product description
Laphroaig 15 years old (reputedly Prince Charles’ favourite whisky) was part of the company’s core range from the 1980s until 2009, when it was replaced by 18 years old.
In 2015, Laphroaig Distillery celebrates its 200th anniversary and the occasion will be honored by several limited editions, including a new 15-year-old (the others are 21 and 32 years old). The one presented here is limited to 72,000 bottles, which is probably not a drop in the ocean of needs, at least in the anniversary year. The new 15-year-old is a return to the past, when Laphroaig offered more fruity sweetness and slightly less of the smoky and peaty tones we have become accustomed to in the new century.
Aroma: expressive, fruity, mango, grapefruit, bananas, apples, pears, sea breeze, vanilla, honey, delicate smoky and hospital notes.
Taste: lots of citrus, mango, grapefruit, bananas, caramel, vanilla, peat, licorice, traces of brine, tobacco and peat.
Finish: long, perfect balance between fruity sweetness and peat smoke.
