On June 1, 1796, Tennessee ratified the Constitution and was admitted as the sixteenth state of the United States by decree of President Washington.

Originally, the territory of Tennessee was part of North Carolina, and when taken over by the government, it was called the "Southwest Territory". Jack Daniel celebrated the centennial of Tennessee's accession to the Union with an edition of his whiskey bottled in unique decanters of his own design. They required extraordinary craftsmanship from the maker and only a few were produced. Jack gave them to his closest friends. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Tennessee's statehood, in 1995, Brown-Forman offered a replica of the original edition. It pays tribute not only to Jack Daniel, but also to his home state. While the Bicentennial edition intended for the American market contained whiskey with an alcohol content of 48%, the European edition presented here was 45% abv.
