Caol Ila 12 years old debuted in 2002 and was the first official release outside the Flora & Fauna and Rare Malts series .
In the last few years, the owners (Diageo) have invested a lot of money in marketing the brand, which has resulted in an increase in sales to over 600 thousand bottles per year. Single malt Caol Ila is an important component of several blends from the Diageo portfolio, in particular Johnnie Walker Black Label and Double Black. In the years 2004-2010, Caol Ila 12 years old won 4 gold medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition .
Aroma : fresh, mild, slightly grassy, seaweed, juniper berries, peat, wet beach sand, green apples and a bit of iodine.
Palate: complex, slightly oily, peat smoke, lemon peel, vanilla, green olives and notes of toasted oak.
Finish: long, smoky and spicy, lemon pepper, nutmeg, trace of citrus.
