How Benriach The Twelve is Made?
The key to making this whisky is time, proper barrel selection and expert knowledge combined with the tradition and craftsmanship of the Benriach distillery.
To become Benriach The Twelve whisky, the distillate is matured for as many as twelve years.
This whisky is mainly aged in barrels in which sherry was previously matured. In addition to these, bourbon and port barrels are also used.
The secret to the taste of this whisky is the use of peat-cured malt and maturation in three types of barrels - bourbon, rum and new oak barrels - for a minimum of ten years.Whisky from different casks is then blended under the guidance of Master Distiller, (Master Blender) Dr. Rachel Baerrie, so as to obtain a complex smoky and fruity flavor in the characteristic Benriach style of whisky from Speyside.
History of the Benriach brand
Adventurer and entrepreneur John Duff founded Benriach Distillery in 1898.
It is a distillery located in the heart of Scotland's Speyside, in the northeastern region of Morayshire, which still preserves the artisanal tradition of creating single malt whisky.
Benriach's philosophy is a creative approach to whisky distillation, maturation in a variety of casks and bold blending of distillates. At the Benriach distillery, we distill three distinct styles of whisky: classic non-peat, smoky and small batches of triple-distilled whisky.A very important place in the distillery is Warehouse 13, where you can find really excellent barrels - of bourbon, sherry, port, Spanish and Portuguese wines, as well as those new barrels not yet used.
The barrels are carefully selected by Master Distiller, Dr. Rachel Barrie, so that the whisky then matured in them acquires a complex flavor.
Benriach whisky is characterized by such a multifaceted taste and variety of styles due to the unique distillation method, which brings out the fruit notes of the whisky.Benriach is also distinguished by its mineral-rich water, the tradition of making malt directly at the distillery, as well as high-quality barley sourced from local crops.
