Kistler Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2018 / 13.9% / 0.75 L
Product description
Kistler Vineyards is an iconic California winery founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and Mark Bixler in Sonoma County. From the very beginning, their goal was to create wines inspired by Burgundy, especially Chardonnays that reflect the character of individual plots. They have about.90 hectares of vineyards in the cooler regions of the Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley, and Carneros, with the most famous plots being m.in.McCrea Vineyard and Kistler Vineyard on Occidental Road. They specialize in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which are fermented in barrels using wild yeast and aged on the lees for an extended period, giving them a creamy texture, elegance, and depth.Since the 1980s.Kistler wines have earned top ratings from critics, and their style has been described as the “Montrachet of California”.Today, they are managed by Jason Kesner, who continues the terroir-driven philosophy, combining rich fruitiness with minerality and freshness. The wines are available almost exclusively through a mailing list, which further underscores their exclusivity and collectible value. For many wine lovers, Kistler is a symbol of the luxurious yet authentic side of California winemaking.
Kistler Pinot Noir 2018 is one of the most elegant and highly regarded wines in the producer’s portfolio, showcasing a cool, Burgundian style of California Pinot Noir. This wine comes from select vineyards in the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley, where the cool climate and Pacific fog allow the fruit to ripen slowly and retain its freshness.
Appearance: In the glass, it has a moderately intense ruby color with a delicate, clear rim.
Aroma: extremely subtle and complex—notes of red fruits (cherry, raspberry, strawberry) intertwine with hints of rose, violets, forest leaves, spices, and a light smoky note from the barrel.
Taste: Juicy on the palate, with an elegant structure, soft, fine-grained tannins, and perfectly balanced acidity; notes of wild berries, morello cherries, and Earl Grey tea emerge, and the finish is long and mineral, with a delicate spiciness.
Aging potential: Although the wine is already ready to drink, it will continue to develop nicely for the next 8–10 years.
Food pairings: It pairs perfectly with roasted poultry (duck, guinea fowl), veal, pork tenderloin, and French dishes such as coq au vin.It also pairs wonderfully with earthier flavors—such as mushroom risotto, roasted root vegetables, or aged cheeses (Comté, Gruyère).
