  • Due to its proximity to the North Sea, it is sometimes referred to as "The Maritime Malt" (Maritime Single Malt), as legend has it that drops of salt water from the fog seep into the warehouses, affecting the character of the maturing barrels.

Product description

Old Pulteney Harbour American Oak Matured is a bold single malt from the famous Old Pulteney distillery, located in the coastal town of Wick, Caithness. The distinctive maritime profile of this whisky is enhanced by maturation in 4 American Bourbon casks, which give it sweet notes of vanilla and honey, harmoniously combining with the salty essence of the ocean. Pulteney is supplied with water from an old mill fed by a stream flowing from Loch Hempriggs, giving the whisky a delicate mineral freshness.

Old Pulteney is one of Scotland’s most iconic single malt distilleries, founded in 1826 in the town of Wick. For years it was considered the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, although that title is now held by Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso. It is named after Sir William Pulteney and its location close to the North Sea has had a profound impact on the character of the whisky. In the 19th century Wick was a centre for herring fishing and the distillery used the sea lanes to transport barley and finished whisky.
