The Edradour Distillery began in 1825 as a cooperative of local farmers. Its name most likely comes from the Gaelic "Eodar dhá Dhobhar" which translates to "the place between two rivers".
The distillery is based in Perthshire, near the town of Pitlochry, and has been owned by Signatory Vintage Ltd since 2002, which produces a dozen limited editions each year, aged (or finished) in different types of wood. This whisky, distilled in November 2000, was originally aged in refill ex-bourbon hogshead casks before being finished in fresh Oloroso sherry butts (nos. 3152 and 3157) in May 2007. Bottled at cask strength (56.5% abv) on 12 October 2022 in an edition of 1,308 bottles.
Nose : sherry toffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, raisins, orange peel, strawberries, raspberries, nutmeg, cinnamon, sandalwood and a trace of tobacco.
Palate : chocolate-coated raisins, toffee, hazelnuts, plums, strawberry jam, marzipan, nutmeg, black pepper, notes of tobacco, leather and oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of sherry, cocoa powder, raisins, cherries, cinnamon, black pepper and oak.
