Product description
Bain's Single Grain whisky debuted in 2009. It is produced by the James Sedgwick Distillery based in Wellington, South Africa, and the name recalls Andrew Geddes Bain, the builder of the Bainskloof Pass road, which connects Ceres with Wellington.
The whisky presented here, distilled in 1999 (the first year of production), underwent a rather complicated maturation – the first three years in fresh bourbon barrels, the next two in new, fresh bourbon barrels, the next decade in third- and fourth-fill bourbon barrels, and finally the last six years in Amontillado and Manzanilla sherry barrels. This limited edition (3,920-litre bottles) went into exclusive distribution in the Travel Retail network in 2022.
Aroma: bouquet of wild flowers, apricots, gooseberries, raisins and sultanas, coconut flakes, shortbread biscuits, toffee, roasted almonds, notes of tobacco and oak.
Palate: hazelnuts, roasted almonds, salted caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, a touch of cloves, bitter orange jam, a mixture of dried herbs and toasted oak.
Finish: long, with notes of caramel, toffee, raisins, cinnamon, white pepper, orange peel, lemongrass and oak.
