Nc'nean Distillery was established in 2017 by Annabel Thomas (its name translates from Gaelic to "Queen of Spirits").
The distillery is located on the Morvern Peninsula in the Western Highlands and produces around 100,000 litres of distillate per year from a single pair of stills. Nc'nean produces certified organic whisky using 100% renewable energy. Nc'nean single malt debuted in 2020 with a limited edition of 1,320 bottles; bottle number 1 sold at a charity auction for more than $54,000. The whisky is distilled from organically grown Scottish barley and aged in bourbon and STR barrels. Batch 9, shown here, was released in July 2021, in an edition of 5,040 bottles.
Nose: vanilla cream, caramel, eucalyptus drops, a handful of fresh herbs, pine needles, mosses and ferns, apples, bananas and a trace of oak shavings.
Palate : vanilla, apples, grapefruit, bitter orange jam, roasted nuts, licorice, white pepper, herbal spice and light oak bitterness.
Finish : quite long, spicy, with notes of white pepper, lemongrass, vanilla, walnuts, orange peel and oak.
