Paul John single malt is produced at the Goa distillery on the west coast of India owned by John Distilleries Ltd. The company was founded by Paul P. John in 1992 and initially produced brandy and blended whisky.
In 2008, a pair of stills were installed and malt whisky distillation began; four years later, Paul John Single Malt debuted in Europe and within a few years had gained worldwide popularity. The company is currently owned by Paul John (57%) and Sazerac Company of New Orleans (43%). The single cask version presented here is a whisky distilled in January 2015, aged in a bourbon barrel and finished in an Oloroso sherry cask no. 13024. Bottled at cask strength (57% abv) for the Polish importer, M&P in August 2021 in an edition of 330 bottles.
Nose : great balance of sherry and peat smoke, raisins, cherries, smoked plums, toffee, caramel, grilled pork neck, black pepper and a pinch of salt.
Palate: peat smoke, blackberries, black cherries, red currants, salted caramel, vanilla, black pepper, ginger, sherry and oak notes.
Finish : quite long, with notes of peat smoke, sherry, red berries, caramel, dried herbs, ginger and oak.
