Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co. and headed by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Longmorn 25 year old on display here was distilled in December 1994 and aged in a refill hogshead cask (DL 13921). Bottled in March 2020 at cask strength (60.1% abv), natural colour and unchill-filtered in a limited edition of 242 bottles.
Nose : fruity, oranges, limes, apples, honey, white chocolate, caramel, maple syrup, toasted sesame seeds, green tea, licorice, notes of ginger and oak.
Taste : slightly oily, caramel, honey, marzipan, chocolate-coated nuts, apples, honeydew melon, coffee liqueur, notes of tobacco, lemongrass and toasted oak.
Finish: long, with notes of citrus, green apples, honey, toffee, nougat, licorice, a bit of hay and oak.
