Tenjaku whisky is a product of Minami Alps Wine & Beverage Co. Ltd. the company founded in 2012 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Toukuoka Co. Ltd (founded 1874).
The company is located in Fuefuki in Yamanashi prefecture and is one of the Japanese biggest wine importers. Tenjaku whisky was created by master blender Kenji Watanabe, renowned through the Japanese whisky and winemaking world from the 1990s throughout the 2000s. The Tenjaku formula remains Mr. Watanabe’s secret; most likely the components (at least some of them) were distilled outside of Japan and blended together in Feufuki using local water extracted from 250 meters below the surface. Tenjaku is the Japanese characters for the skylark.
Nose: sweet cereals, brown sugar, vanilla, pears, dried apples, hints of hay and pine needles and faint hint of smoke.
Palate: slightly spirity, caramel, vanilla, apples, pears, dash of white pepper, traces of hay and oak shavings.
Finish: not too long and sweet, with notes of breakfast cereals, caramel, hard candy, hints of hay and oak.
