- Ardbeg’s whiskies are famous for their rich, peaty and smoky depths.
Product description
Ardbeg single malt is renowned for its rich, smoky and peaty aroma and flavour profile.
However, whisky connoisseurs are well aware that the maturation process brings out subtle notes hidden for years. The whisky presented here, distilled under the watchful eye of Bill Lumsden, current creative director of Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, spent two decades in a first-fill No. 10 bourbon cask on January 10, 2000. The fullness of the aromatic and flavor elements was achieved in June 2020, when the contents of the cask were bottled at natural strength and without chill filtration into 179 bottles. (Official tasting note by Dr. Bill Lumsden.)
Nose: a beautiful bouquet, freshly grated lemon peel, pineapples, a touch of pink jasmine, followed by a wave of classic Ardbeg notes of fennel, pine needles and vanilla cream. After a while, a fumigating smoke and hints of smoldering coal come to battle with a basket of juicy fruits and flowers.
Palate: Surprisingly creamy yet spicy, with hints of bitter orange blossom, lemon balm and sweet honeysuckle combined with campfire smoke, sweet popcorn and sea salt caramel. White peppercorns and anise add spice. Finish is smooth but long, combining citrus sweetness with peat smoke and a touch of soot.
