Product description
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin is a product of Shed Distillery, founded in 2014 by Patrick J. Rigney, a man with over 30 years of experience in the alcoholic beverages sector.
The distillery is based in the village of Drumshanbo in County Leitrim, Ireland, and produces whiskey and gin. The gin formula lists 12 botanicals, the main one being Gunpowder tea, a green tea whose leaves are slowly dried and rolled into small balls resembling gunpowder. The rest of the list includes juniper berries, angelica root, cumin, cardamom, coriander, grapefruit, lemons, Markut limes, spirea, orris root and anise. The juniper berries, roots and seeds are traditionally distilled in a copper still, while the citrus and Gunpowder tea are so-called "vapor infusion" (placed in a container through which the alcohol vapours pass). In 2021, the Gunpowder Gin with Sardinian Citrus presented here debuted, in which the lemon in the formula was replaced by citrus medica tuberosa, also known as pompia or China citron. This fruit is somewhat reminiscent of grapefruit, grows only in Sardinia and is supposedly the rarest citrus on the planet.
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Sardinian Citrus is a gin with more intense citrus notes than the basic version. Lots of grapefruit and orange peel complemented by juniper, green tea and a pinch of pepper. We recommend serving with Feever Tree Indian tonic, with a piece of grapefruit or lime.
